Domain
Names that reflect the name of your business are an invaluable asset
to your company (i.e. www.yourcompany.com). Having your own dot.com
increases your name recognition, makes it easy for your customers to
remember your address, indicates that you are a savvy Internet
enthusiast, and helps brand your image. Eventually all dot.coms will
be gone. All three-letter and number combinations have already been
taken.

Make
your domain name as memorable as possible. Make sure that it is easy
to spell and to pronounce. Having a name that is easy to brand
increases your chance of success! The name you choose should not be
confusing or infringe on any existing trademarks. Register a Domain
Name that matches your business name or a keyword from your industry
(or both!). Consider covering all angles with the registration of
multiple domain names and having them all directed to your website.
Obtain similar names to avoid competition. It is also wise to obtain
misspellings of your Domain Name to keep others from taking
advantage of typing and spelling errors.

You can choose:
.com, .net and .org domains that The Internet Corporation for
Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) administers. Countries also
register domains ending in the abbreviation of the country such as
.ca, .tv, .cc. There are also new domain suffixes that are
administered by ICANN. These are .biz, .info, .name, .pro, .aero,
.coop, .museum
When you choose a
suffix (also known as a Top Level Domain or TLD) for your domain,
you are determining a large portion of your corporate image. The
most common domain suffixes are:
.com: is generally
for commercial enterprises and considered the most valuable and
common suffix on the Internet. Most businesses want a .com name, as
it is the easiest for their clients/customers to remember.
.net: is mainly for networking or Internet Companies
.org: is used by nonprofit organizations or societies

Every
organization/corporation on the Internet must have a unique domain
name. If another organization/corporation has already reserved your
domain name, you will have to choose another. Some possibilities to
consider when choosing a new domain name:
· change the abbreviation of your name
· add an "inc", "intl", "ltd", etc to
your domain name
· expand your domain name, e.g. if your company is "Your
Company Corporation", try yourcompany.com, yourcompanycorp.com,
yourcompanycorporation.com etc.
· add a hyphen to your domain name or change the suffix.

Why
Do I Need A Website?
|
|
|
Having a website shows your customers
that your business is Internet savvy. Research shows that consumers
are using the Internet to research the companies they may
potentially do business with. Without a website, your business could
be missing out on the newest generation of consumers. A website is
an enhanced marketing tool. It allows a business to showcase
products, staff, and services at a fraction of the cost of
traditional marketing methods.
